TRANSPARENCY, RESPONSIBILITY,
AND SUPERIOR QUALITY
SA 8000
Maina was the first confectionery company in the world and the first Italian Company in the food sector to obtain SA 8000 Social Accountability Certification.
The SA 8000 standard is a tool, based on international labour standards laid down by the ILO (International Labour Organisation) conventions, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UN 1948), and the Convention on the Rights of Children (UNICEF 1989).
This certification guarantees that Maina and all its suppliers respect all the norms relating to working conditions and human rights.
This standard specifically forbids any form of child labour or forced labour, and demands that the rules on health and safety in the workplace be complied with. It forbids discrimination against employees, ensures the right to free association, and forbids imposing unjust disciplinary action, working hours, and remuneration
The BRC (British Retail Consortium) certification guarantees that Maina respects the rules laid down by an association of the leading British Retailers, in relation to the way the company is managed with regard to the hygiene, healthiness and safety of food products.
This certification is gaining ever more widespread recognition internationally, even outside Great Britain, as a guarantee of extremely high quality of any finished product.
Recognized by the GFSI, the International Featured Standards (IFS) certification facilitates the effective selection of private-label food suppliers by large-scale retailers, based on their ability to provide safe products that comply with contractual specifications and legal requirements. It represents a benchmark acknowledged both in Europe and worldwide.

The Lfree certification guarantees that products in the Maina Lactose-Free line are made with carefully selected low-lactose butter, ensuring a final lactose content of less than 0.01%.
Lfree mark is a guarantee of the highest safety and quality for consumers: all certified products must comply with the requirements set out in a specific technical-scientific protocol, undergo inspections by accredited external bodies, and pass analytical testing of the product.
This makes the Lfree certification distinct from companies’ self-declarations, which do not include such thorough checks on the products placed on the shelves.
Lfree-certified products are approved by AILI — the Italian Lactose-Intolerant Association (APS) — and are listed in the ‘Senza Lattosio’ app.
FAIRTRADE COCOA
Fairtrade provides better prices, decent working conditions, sustainability, and fair trading terms for farmers. We have chosen Fairtrade certification to contribute to ensuring that cocoa growers can achieve a decent income.
The Rainforest Alliance certification for cocoa and other agricultural products is a program that verifies compliance with environmental, social, and economic sustainability standards. It certifies that the cocoa has been grown and produced in a way that protects forests, promotes the well-being of workers and farming communities, and ensures the responsible management of natural resources.
